Lake Como Wedding Photographer

I’m Federico Pannacci, a Tuscany-based wedding photographer who regularly shoots weddings on Lake Como. Over 15 years and 500+ weddings across Italy, I’ve photographed ceremonies at Villa del Balbianello, Villa Erba, Villa d’Este, Villa Monastero, Villa Pliniana, and Villa Balbiano, along with smaller boutique hotels and lakeside villas. My approach blends documentary storytelling with editorial portraiture, shot on both digital and 35mm film.

Why Couples Choose Lake Como for Their Wedding

Lake Como is one of Italy’s most requested destination wedding locations, known for its historic villas, mild year-round climate, and dramatic lake-and-mountain backdrop. Couples choose it for two main reasons: the concentration of architecturally significant venues within a small area, and the quality of light, soft, diffused, and consistent for most of the year. Spring and early autumn offer the most reliable weather; summer is peak season with higher venue demand and larger crowds at the most famous villas.

Where I Shoot on Lake Como

Villa del Balbianello — One of the most iconic wedding venues in Italy, known for its terraced gardens and panoramic loggia over the lake. Requires advance authorization for photography and drone use, which I coordinate as part of planning.

Villa Erba — A grand historic estate near Cernobbio, known for its formal gardens and elegant interiors. Popular for larger celebrations.

Villa d’Este — A five-star hotel and historic villa in Cernobbio, offering both ceremony and reception spaces with lake views.

Villa Monastero — A former Cistercian convent in Varenna with botanical gardens along the water. Well suited to smaller, more intimate ceremonies.

Villa Pliniana — A secluded 16th-century villa near Torno, ideal for couples wanting privacy and a cinematic, less-visited setting.

Villa Balbiano — Located in Ossuccio, known for its formal Italian gardens and ornate interiors, suited to grand, exclusive celebrations.

Mandarin Oriental, Lake Como — A five-star lakefront hotel in Blevio, combining contemporary luxury with private gardens and an infinity pool overlooking the lake. A strong choice for couples wanting hotel-level service alongside a full wedding weekend for guests.

Grand Hotel Tremezzo — A historic Belle Époque hotel in Tremezzo with iconic lake-facing terraces and its own floating pool — frequently requested for its instantly recognizable views.

CastaDiva Resort — A five-star resort in Blevio built around Giuditta Pasta’s 19th-century villa, offering both indoor elegance and lakeside outdoor spaces.

Beyond these, I also shoot at smaller boutique hotels and private villas in Varenna, Bellagio, and Menaggio for couples who want the Lake Como setting without a large-estate production.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a Lake Como wedding photographer? Popular venues like Villa del Balbianello and Villa Erba are often booked 12–18 months in advance, especially for the May–September season. I recommend booking your photographer as soon as your venue and date are confirmed.

Do Lake Como’s villas require special permits for photography? Some venues, including Villa del Balbianello, require advance authorization for professional photography and drone use. I handle this coordination as part of the planning process for couples I work with.

What’s the best time of year for a Lake Como wedding? Late spring (May–June) and early autumn (September) offer the most reliable weather and softest light. Summer has longer days but larger crowds and higher demand at the most famous venues; winter is quieter and more affordable but fewer venues operate year-round.

Do you travel to Lake Como, or are you based there? I’m based in Siena, Tuscany, and travel to Lake Como regularly for weddings — it’s one of the destinations I shoot most often outside my home region.

Do you shoot both film and digital at Lake Como weddings? Yes. Most couples receive a full digital gallery, with 35mm film available as an add-on for couples who want that specific analog look for part of the day.

Can you recommend planners or venues on Lake Como? Yes — I work regularly with a network of planners, florists, and venues on Lake Como and can advise on which fits your style and guest count.

About Federico Pannacci

Editorial Wedding Photographer

Authentic Stories, Told Through My Lens

I’m Federico Pannacci, a wedding photographer based in Siena, Tuscany, with 15 years of experience and 500+ weddings photographed across Italy. I regularly shoot on Lake Como, at venues including Villa del Balbianello, Villa d’Este, Villa Erba, Villa Monastero, Villa Pliniana, and Villa Balbiano, as well as luxury hotels like Mandarin Oriental and Grand Hotel Tremezzo. My approach blends documentary storytelling with editorial portraiture, shot on both digital and 35mm film.

A Natural, Human-Centered Approach

My style combines fine art and photojournalism: candid, unposed coverage of the day as it unfolds, alongside a smaller number of intentional portraits. I work with discretion, so couples can stay present in their wedding day while I document its most meaningful moments — no forced posing, no interrupting the flow of the day.

From Lake Como to the World

Although I’m based in Tuscany, Lake Como is one of the destinations I shoot most often outside my home region, along with Umbria, Puglia, and Sicily. Most couples I work with here are planning a destination wedding from abroad. I coordinate directly with venues on permit requirements (several Lake Como villas require advance authorization for photography and drone use) and work with a trusted network of local planners and florists.

Fede photographed our elopement at Villa Balbiano, and captured so many beautiful moments from the day. The shots are all high quality. We loved having many different guests captured in the album and so many natural (non-posed) pictures. Fede also manages and directs the process well, so we didn’t have to think too much about it and could just enjoy the moments. The communication was easy, the quote was up-front, and we had no issues in between. Thanks Fede for capturing all the memories!

In June 2024, Federico photographed our daughter’s wedding in Italy. From the first contact, he was more than a photographer—he became a trusted partner, offering guidance and support during the planning from the U.S. On the wedding day, meeting him felt like seeing an old friend. He captured the event with grace and beauty, delivering images to treasure for years. Beyond his talent, Fede is a wonderful person, and we’re grateful for the friendship formed.

He has really good ideas and a perfect eye for moments, motifs, light and angle. The pictures are perfect and the best reminder of the perfect wedding day! We received a first picture shortly after our wedding day. Within 3 weeks after our special day we got the link to download all the pics. We can recommend Federico. Federico is a very kind and pleasant person. He has the great ability to catch emotions in pictures.
